About This Treatment

What Are Dentures?

Modern, comfortable and natural-looking tooth replacement

Dentures are custom-made removable appliances used to replace missing teeth and the surrounding gum tissue. They are available as full (complete) dentures — replacing all teeth in an arch — or partial dentures, which replace one or several missing teeth while preserving any remaining natural teeth.

At Wickham Market Dental Practice, we provide precision-crafted dentures in a range of materials including acrylic resin, flexible Valplast, and cobalt chrome metal framework dentures. We take pride in providing dentures that look natural, fit comfortably and allow you to eat, speak and smile with confidence.

Modern dentures are designed with aesthetics and comfort firmly in mind. The teeth are selected for natural shape, shade and appearance, and each denture is custom-fitted to your specific oral anatomy through a series of careful impressions and try-in appointments.

Benefits

Why Patients Choose This Treatment

Restore Your Smile

Dentures replace missing teeth, restoring the appearance of a full, natural smile and significantly improving facial aesthetics and self-confidence.

Eat with Confidence

Well-fitted dentures restore chewing function, allowing you to enjoy a normal diet again. Implant-retained dentures provide even greater stability for confident chewing.

Improved Speech

Missing teeth can affect speech. Dentures fill the gaps, restoring normal tongue positioning and improving speech clarity and confidence.

Preserves Facial Structure

Missing teeth lead to bone loss and facial sagging over time. Dentures provide support for the lips and cheeks, maintaining facial fullness and a more youthful appearance.

Implant-Retained Option

Implant-supported dentures clip securely onto dental implants, providing exceptional stability and eliminating the need for denture adhesives. A truly life-changing solution.

NHS Available

Dentures are available on the NHS under Band 3 treatment. Private dentures offer superior aesthetics, better-fitting materials and more natural-looking teeth.

The Process

Your Treatment Journey

We guide you through every stage — from your first consultation to your final result.

1

Initial Assessment

30 minutes

Your dentist assesses your mouth, remaining teeth and gum tissue. X-rays may be taken if any remaining teeth or bone need evaluation. Treatment options, materials and NHS/private costs are discussed.

2

Primary Impressions

20–30 minutes

Initial impressions of your mouth are taken using soft impression material. These are used to create custom impression trays for more accurate secondary impressions at your next visit.

3

Secondary Impressions & Bite Registration

30–45 minutes

Detailed secondary impressions and a bite registration are taken to capture the precise relationship between your upper and lower jaws. This ensures accurate articulation and comfortable bite.

4

Wax Try-In

30 minutes

A wax denture with the chosen teeth set in position is tried in your mouth. This allows us to check the appearance, shade, tooth position and fit before the final denture is made. Adjustments are made at this stage.

5

Fitting of Final Denture

30–45 minutes

Your completed denture is delivered and fitted. Minor adjustments are made chairside to ensure comfort and a secure fit. Detailed care instructions are provided.

6

Review Appointments

15–20 minutes each

One or more review appointments are scheduled in the weeks following fitting to assess comfort, make fine adjustments and ensure you are adapting well to your new denture.
